Packo Festa 2012
This year was the 30th anniversary of Pako Festa, a cultural festival held annually down cosmopolitan Packington St in Geelong West. Normally a street known for its boutique shops, great bars and restaurants, one day a year it is transformed into a multi-cultural festival celebrating all the nationalities that make up today’sAustralia.
The day starts with a parade down the street with everyone dressing up to show off their native customs and costumes seeing the street alive with an abundance of colour, music and dancing. With a temperature in the high thirties, it was guaranteed to get hot but this didn’t deter the carnival spectacle as nothing could stop them.
After the parade you can wander the street taking in all the cultural food stands, music venues or shop sales till your heart’s content. People come from all over Victoria to take in this enriching celebration so come on down next year and soak up the energetic atmosphere that is Pako Festa!!
